  • The title specifies two questions much on the minds of children and their parents these days. Girard’s answers are nonscary, specific, and practical; they form a very useful basis on which parents can address the topic with their children comfortably…Illustrated with low-key charcoal drawings that carry a good deal of substance in their nuance and expressions, this is perhaps the best treatment of the subject presently available for young children.

  • This consists of sensible advice, given with simple specifics, for coping with the advances of strangers; it warns against such traditional approaches as being told that a parent is ill, or has asked that the child be given a ride home. Blue-tinted line drawings are realistic, echoing one of the primary tenets of the book: always get help or seek a haven with adults as fast as possible if a stranger makes overtures.
