Lost in Bermooda

Welcome to Bermooda, an undiscovered tropical island that is primarily populated by walking, talking cows of human intelligence. Bermooda has no “outsiders,” and most prefer to keep it that way. That is, until Chuck ventures into the boneyard alone and discovers a young human boy who has been washed up unconscious on the sandbar! The young boy’s name is Dakota, and he doesn’t seem as scary as Chuck thought humans should be. Chuck decides to “cow-mouflage” Dakota to pass as a bovine in town. Dakota and Chuck become fast friends, but trouble is brewing and Dakota’s true identity is at risk of being discovered. In the end, Chuck’s family adopts Dakota as their own calf.

Reviews

  • Litwin packs a lot of action into a little book through the pair’s attempts to get Dakota home, while still making both Chuck and Dakota well-rounded and adding bumps along the way in their relationship.

    - The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, recommend

  • Printed in short chapters of generously leaded type strewn with vignettes of a diverse anthropomorphic cast, Litwin’s tale not only builds a properly suspenseful, storm-wrecked climax, but is udderly loaded with bovine wordplay. Only a “kau’pai” would fail to chortle, and that’s no bull.

    - Booklist

  • Litwin’s light tale of friendship is full of Hawaii-inspired cow puns and reads like the intro to a series…New-to-chapters readers will gladly join the herd and say “Lo’hai” (hello) to Bermooda and its denizens.

    - Kirkus Reviews

  • In his debut as an author, illustrator Litwin (My Name Is Not Isabella) takes a goofy premise and runs with it…Litwin lays it on thick with the bovine puns…and the ample humor and some revelations about Dakota’s backstory should leave readers looking forward to subsequent books.
