Plot Summary
"Kiss, kiss," say the mommies. "I love you." "Hug, hug," say the daddies. "Love you, too!" It's a workday morning, and animal mommies and daddies are heading off on the train. All day they do their jobs, and in the evening, they ride the train home to their waiting children. There's dinner, books, baths, and lots of cuddling.
Carol Roth's reassuring rhymes and Steve Lavis's friendly, funny animal parents show young readers that moms and dads go away - but always come back.
Reviews
"Roth’s jolly rhyme scheme is catchy and descriptive....This title will extend well into units on families, transportation, occupations, and math." School Library Journal
"Rhyming verses and repetitive phrasing will appeal to young audiences....Add to this mix an interesting variety of careers and some counting, and the result is a solid peek at the adult world for the youngest listeners." Kirkus Reviews
"Combining all of the favorites of young kids, the colorful illustrations include fun, lovable animal families and lively choo-choo trains. The suitable repetition and rhyme provide excitement for young children, simultaneously simulating memory practice...'Choo-choo' is a great book for children who struggle with letting a parent leave for work, exemplifying a sense of pride and approval in their parents' absence and love and gratitude for their return."
