What kinds of books does Albert Whitman publish?
Our titles range the full-scope of children's book publishing from babies to teens. We are well known for the Boxcar Children® Mysteries and for our issue books—those which deal with children's problems and special needs. We also publish board books, picture books, non-fiction, biography, and novels.
Aren't you just a specialty publisher?
No. Although we're known for the Boxcar Children® Mysteries and our issue books, a significant part of our list is devoted to popular topics such as holidays, animals, sports, and multicultural themes.
Have your books won awards?
Yes, our books have won numerous awards and are on many state reading lists. The listing for each book on this website will include award information when applicable.
How can I get one of your catalogs?
You may send a self-addressed, stamped 9x12 envelope with your request, and address your letter to "Catalog Request" at our main address. Please include three first-class stamps (U.S. postage) with your SASE.
Can I reprint material from one of your books?
You must first send a written request to our permissions department, and let us know how you wish to use the material. Address your letter to "Permissions" at our main address.
What kind of binding do your books have?
Most of our hardcover books have a publisher's library reinforced binding. This special binding is especially durable and strong. A small percentage of our hardcover books are produced overseas with sturdy bindings similar to any hardcover book that you would purchase in a bookstore. In addition, many of our books are available in softcover adhesive bindings as paperbacks. For information on specific bindings on individual titles, please call customer service at 800-255-7675.
